Different types of business reports have very different requirements for presenting data in a human-readable form. As a result XBRL provides a number of different solutions to the challenge of presenting XBRL data.
Inline XBRL, or iXBRL, provides a mechanism for embedding XBRL tags in HTML documents. This allows the XBRL benefits of tagged data to be combined with a human-readable presentation of a report, which is under the control of the preparer.
The latest version of the specification is Inline XBRL 1.1. The Inline XBRL specification is used is conjunction with the Transformation Registry 3, which defines how the values of facts which appear in HTML documents are converted to the required data types for XBRL.
