Open Information Model 1.0

The Open Information Model provides a syntax-independent model for XBRL data, allowing reliable transformation of XBRL data into other representations. The work product includes:

  • The Open Information Model (OIM): a syntax-independent definition of an XBRL report.
  • xBRL-XML: mappings from the original XML-based syntax for XBRL to the OIM.
  • xBRL-JSON: a standard JSON representation for XBRL data, defined in terms of the OIM.
  • xBRL-CSV: a standard CSV representation for XBRL data, defined in terms of the OIM, and leveraging the W3C's standards for tabular metadata.
  • OIM Common: common definitions used by other OIM-based specifications.

Key changes in the latest Candidate Recommendation include:

  • Replaced footnotes with generic "links" mechanism.
  • Removed support for tuples from model.
  • Made period, unit and entity core aspects optional in model.
  • (xBRL-JSON) merged period aspect into single property.
  • (xBRL-JSON) replaced list of facts with an object keyed by fact ID.
  • (xBRL-JSON) removed namespace prefixes for core aspects.
  • (xBRL-JSON) added "documentInfo" and "features"
  • (xBRL-JSON) added "canonical values" optional feature.
  • Added additional simplifying restrictions on DTS structure.
  • Switch to using proposed DTR type for identifying "no language" strings.
